Material of the Sculpture: Metal
Sculpture Dimensions: 80x100x35 cm
This striking sculpture by Hasan Cingiz centers on the strong and uncanny expression of a male figure with a half mask on his face. As the figure carries a huge fishbone on his shoulders, this unusual burden creates both a layer of weight and symbolic meaning. The fish's facial features and stylized hair intertwine with the mask on the man's face, creating a pulsating illusion of identity where two different beings melt into one.
The intense use of the color red increases the dramatic effect of the sculpture. This vibrant tone that surrounds both the human figure and the fishbone may represent passion, pain, life, and perhaps some kind of primitive energy. While red expresses the complex emotional state of the figure's inner world, it also emphasizes the weight and importance of the burden it carries.
Dozens of black support points surrounding the statue symbolize a fragile balance and a temporary existence. These geometric and industrial forms, unlike organic figures, may express the turbulent state of the figure or its tense relationship with the outside world by creating a kind of modern scaffolding or abstract cage. These black dots also make visible the structural elements in the creation process, the artist's thoughts and interventions.
This sculpture by Hasan Cingiz makes you think deeply about masks, identities, burdens and the complex relationship between humans and nature. The shouldering of the fishbone perhaps represents a responsibility from the past, an atavistic bond, or man's struggle with nature. A half mask, on the other hand, may symbolize a hidden self, unexpressed emotions, or fragmentation of identity. The sculpture offers a powerful narrative that invites the viewer to discover their own meanings in the labyrinth of this symbolic language.
